The works involved several small projects across the museum. Each with their own challenges. Works were to facilitate the extension within the courtyard area to provide new gallery space and alterations within the existing building, along with associated external works
Works include but are not limited to:
Relocation of Egyptian column – this was a particular challenge on the project due to the age of the artefact. With no design information on the existing plinth or knowledge on how the column was first placed in the museum we initially had to undertake investigation work. An A frame was set up to lift the column to investigate the plinth. We then undertook design of a new plinth and relocated the column at a later date once plinth design was approves & installed. The column weight approx. 4 tonnes. Close liaison with the museums artefact’s team was essential to agree the method of safely lifting the column. Trial demonstrations were undertaken on mock ups to ensure straps etc would not damage the priceless artefact.
