The works comprised of the removal of concrete blockage from a culvert approximately 4.5m deep from ground level and the diversion of a foul sewer adjacent the Jean McFarlane Building on the UofM South East Campus.
Qorks included the exposure and careful excavation around existing services, drain down of heating mains and sprinkler system, temporary diversion of the sprinkler mains, temporary removal of the heating mains and installation of temporary shoring support systems. To achieve this MBC had to excavate to a depth of 1500mm to access pipework’s then agree suitable dates to divert the heating and sprinkler mains to the building. Following the diversion we then had to excavate to a depth of 4500mm to access the Culvert top. We had to use box sections and shoring and undertake temporary works designs. We could then remove the Culvert Top to access this and remove the concrete blockage. This works involved confined spaces which were accessed via tripod and landyard. 

Foul sewer diversion – included the careful excavation, installation of shoring system, construction of a new backdrop access chamber around the existing culvert and also associated plugging of the existing drain to the Cornbrook Culvert.

Works included confined space access and over pumping of foul drainage to allow chamber construction.
